The reunion committee has hired a DJ who takes requests, so the question is on the table: what were the most (or least) memorable songs of our high school years, and why?
For example, Tim Holt likes “Freddie’s Dead” by Curtis Mayfield. Whenever he hears it, Tim says, it reminds him one time when he got thrown out while rounding third base trying for home. Whatever. I never played baseball.
How about it, you Aging Eagles? What music takes you back to the Smokehole, the Restless Ribbon or the 51 Drive In? Let us know in the comments.

Top 10 Songs of 1974 – Billboard Year End Charts
1 Barbra Streisand The Way We Were
2 Terry Jacks Seasons In The Sun
3 Love Unlimited Orchestra Love’s Theme
4 Redbone Come And Get Your Love
5 Jackson 5 Dancing Machine
6 Grand Funk Railroad The Loco-Motion
7 MFSB TSOP
8 Ray Stevens The Streak
9 Elton John Bennie And The Jets
10 Mac Davis One Hell Of A Woman
OMG, how utterly sad. No wonder everyone had 8 tracks.
So what were we listening to?
Deep Purple – “Burn”,
Dig the boots and bells on the bass.
The Rolling Stones – “It’s Only Rock ‘n Roll”,
The lesser listened to but better song in my opinion – Time Waits for No One, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j-VoAlWGY5A
The Who – “Quadrophenia”,
Too many excellent cuts on the album to mention, but “Love reign o’er me” ranks, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZALcu_UhuIg
Rush – “Here Again”,
A lot of sound from a three piece.
Steely Dan – “Barrytown”,
I always preferred the title cut “Pretzel Logic”,
Elton John – “Bennie and the Jets”,
It made the charts in 1974, a twofer with Soul Train.
Elton followed Bennie up with “Daniel”,
Try not to think of old friends when you play this one.
Led Zeppelin-“Dancing Day’s”,
“Over the Hills and Far Away”,
Such an iconic band.
Pink Floyd – Dark Side of the Moon,
Somebody was getting high.
Aerosmith – Get Your Wings,
Black Sabbath- Sabbath Bloody Sabbath,
And so it went. So how did Streisand make the top of the charts? They must not have been paying attention to us.
