From Reunion Committee Chairman Tim Holt
Edison ’74 Classmates –
I hope you are having a great summer so far. Our 40 year reunion is right around the corner, weekend of September 20th to be exact. Your Reunion Committee has been working hard to put this together. It will be really great to see people we haven’t seen in years.
There have been some questions come up about the reunion. Let me try to answer the most common questions.
1. When will it be?
The weekend of September 19, 20, 21st of 2014
2. Where will the 40 year Reunion take place?
Renaissance Hotel (near 71st and Hwy 169)
6808 South 107 East Ave
Tulsa, OK 74133
918-307-2600
The Renaissance is a AAA 4-Diamond hotel and quite possibly the nicest hotel in the city. The hotel also offers complementary service to/from Tulsa International Airport.
3. How much will it cost?
The cost is for the Main Event on Saturday, September 20. this cost is based on the cost of a full dinner buffet at the hotel, music, dancing, decorations, and good times. There will be a cash bar.
Early Registration: Single $95/Couple $160
After August 15th: Single $120/Couple $180 (Early Registration Deadline extended.)
On Friday evening (September 19th), some attendees may choose to hang out at the Roof Top lounge in the recently renovated Mayo Hotel in downtown Tulsa, beginning around 6:00 pm. The lounge will be open to the general public, so you will pay for your own food and beverages. This is not an official reunion event.
Classmates may also choose to meet at the Cypress Grill Lounge at the headquarters Renaissance Hotel. This is a very nice Lounge/Restaurant at our host hotel. We will also have a hospitality suite available all weekend open to registered attendees.
4. How do I pay and Register?
- The Easiest and Cheapest way to pay: The Reunion Registration Page at edison74.com. There you will find a PayPal link where you can pay via your PayPal account or credit card. Do it now (before
Aug 15sometime in the future) to save a bundle. - By check, payable to Tulsa Edison Class of ’74
Mail to:
Tulsa Edison Class of ’74
5147 S. Harvard Ave. #282
Tulsa, OK 74135
- Pay at the Door: Credit Card, Check, Cash. Cost at the door will be $120 Single/$180 Couple.
5. What Should I Wear?
Dress is Casual; dress comfortably, as if you’re hanging out with old friends in a nice hotel.
6. Are there any other activities planned for the weekend?
We are working on and will take any ideas or input in this area, i.e., picnic, Guthrie Green downtown, etc. Include your ideas in the comments below.
We’ll arrange a round of GOLF on Saturday afternoon on the 20th. This is not a tournament; we will get as many tee times as we need, so we will need to know AHEAD OF TIME if you want to play. Tim Holt will coordinate, so let him know by mid-August if interested: tholt102 < at > cox < dot > net.
7. What if I want to reserve a Hotel Room?
We have a discounted rate at the Renaissance Hotel Thursday, Friday and Saturday at $89.00 per night. You can call them direct and tell them you are going to the Edison High School ’74 Reunion or go to this link and book a room that way. I think you will like this Hotel.
Note: The discounted room block is available for registered attendees only through midnight on 8/20/14.
I hope this clears up or answers any questions you may have. Again, we have been working hard to put together a really great reunion. I understand that 95.00/120.00 is a lot of money but we have crunched the numbers for all of the costs to give you the best price we possibly can. I hope this helps with any questions you may have. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions, concerns, or suggestions.
It will only be a Great Reunion if YOU attend !!!
Thank You and See You at the 40th,
Tim Holt
Edison ’74 Reunion Committee
Not sure if I’ll be in town for the reunion but my current address is 1504 E 34th Street 74105
That clears up a lot. Your first message said that registration covered both nights, room, food and entertainment. Thought that meant hotel room.
I wish it only cost 5 cents.
It s Sunday Aug. 10. The hotel said that the block is sold out, but that their sales department could release more rooms. Can the committee get them to add more rooms at the $89 rate?
Psst… Clint! Secret link, just for you, buddy! http://www.marriott.com/meeting-event-hotels/group-corporate-travel/groupCorp.mi?resLinkData=EDISON%20HIGH%20SCHOOL%20%20%5Etulbr%60ESHESHA%6089%60USD%60false%609/18/14%609/21/14%608/20/14&app=resvlink&stop_mobi=yes
I know we are in double secret times with all kinds of terror and secret stuff….. BUT, Is there a way to post a list of our friends that are attending the event…. Do not want to bust a secret but it is kind of fun to see who is coming for the weekend… Dang – what is this world coming too..!!! Thanks to all and take care, Jeff ( sorry, last name is secret)……………………
To answer your question, people can voluntarily post their intention to attend (or not) at https://www.facebook.com/groups/TulsaEdison74/events/ . I guess you have to be a member of Facebook to post, but anyone can look at it.
Anybody who wants to let everyone know they’re coming can post a comment here, as you have done.
I know it’s not my place to “out” people who may not want to have the info on the internet, but I’ll tell you that of the people who have signed up so far, there are 2 from California, 2 from Louisiana (including me!!), 1 from D.C. and 1 from Colorado. And Texas, jeez, Texas is lousy with attendees.
Maybe you should get some of your deadbeat friends to register, Jeff!
Thanks Steve…. I do not know why my friends are deadbeats… I did not think they were in High School….. BTW – thanks for all the time you have spent and continue to devote to our Class and this reunion….. Take care, Swaff.
All of my friends are deadbeats too.
Took me a while to reply I was taking a nap and beating the dead 😉
I’m going for sure…but don’t tell anybody.
Count Mary and I in.
Hi Tim and Edison Eagles, So glad you have put this together for us. I am so looking forward to the reunion. I hope I remember some one’s name. At my young age I now write my name, phone # and address in my granny panties in case I forget. 9th grad 1st day of school everyone thought I was the teacher. I had the biggest hair and wore a polyester pantsuit my mom had made. The next day I got a job at poison-ivy so I could have the latest greatest jeans. I was a Breezer sang and played the piano some Barbra Streisand song. I also was Eddie Eagle several times. Trying to stand up with that giant head was quit a chore. But it was the closest I ever got to cheerleading. This is Susan Staires. I had a crush on Robert Steele all through high school. I am on my 2nd and final marriage to Rex Alexander. A retired land developer and home builder in Tulsa for 30 yrs. We have a home in B.A and Palm Springs California. I have a beautiful daughter Sarah Sallee who very unlike her mom is a marathon runner and works putting on marathons in the Houston area. I drive to the mail box. I would like to say I still have dark brown hair but now all I have is dark brown roots. So hope we have name tags and of course it will need to be very cool in the room for my unexpected hot flashes. Love to all Susan
Great post, Susan… see you there. Kenny
I have been to a couple of the planning meetings and have enjoyed reuniting with the people that were in attendance on those nights. I haven’t attended all of the meetings, but was aware of most of them ahead of time and went to a couple. There is a core group that has worked their tails off to make this reunion happen (I would try to name them, but would end up leaving someone out that has worked hard. I am not one of those). They have planned, met, organized, and a whole bunch of other verbs so that we could all have an opportunity to meet, reminisce and have a good time. I will admit that $95 is not chump change for me, but “time” is the true currency of life. These people have spent their TIME (and their dollars) putting this thing together. And, Maley has kept the communications up-to-date. They have fretted about events, costs, music and hotel rooms in an attempt to make everyone feel welcome and comfortable. I could not have hired this group for a mere $95 to plan something like this for me. So I will happily attend, laugh with old friends and pretend to recognize people who sat next to me in Edison classes. When it is all over I will have memories of a few special moments with a few special friends – perhaps people that are “new” friends that I haven’t seen for years. But in the end, life is not measured in years, but in moments. And if I get to have one memorable moment, that lasts the rest of my life during this all too short weekend, it will be well worth the $95 dollars. Yes I will be there and I’m looking forward to seeing you there too. Even Pedro, Senor Robertson.
Greg, well said!! and I say ditto!
It will be good to see you.
Thanks Clint. It kinda came out of nowhere – not my usual MO. But my honest belief. 36 days and counting.
